I believe in art for a broader audience. I have consistently
chosen to show work in non-traditional and public spaces as well
as spend a great deal of time encouraging young artists and educating
non-artists through events, group gatherings and workshops. As
a student of the Sculpture Department at Mass College of Art my
focus was on creating site specific, interactive and functional
works of art. I was searching for ways to involve the viewer,
to create an atmosphere or environment. As I have continued to
develop as an artist I have become increasingly interested in
Public Art as a means by which to do this very thing.
As Design Director of Wilkins Art Consulting I worked extensively
on the Children's Hospital Boston campus on a variety of projects
including: coordinating themed art exhibitions, managing teams
of artists, directing the fabrication process for our custom designs,
as well as creating works of art for the hospital myself. This
role also gave me experience working with an Art Committee on
long term, multifaceted projects. Outside of my experience with
Wilkins Art Consulting I have completed a number of site-specific
art and design projects including creating three large sculptures
at the Parker Hill Branch Public Library and commissions for Longfellow
Place Residencies and Children's Hospital Boston. I enjoy the
problem-solving process of creating a site-specific work of art
and I am honored that something I have made is available for the
public to enjoy. It is my conviction that art is most potent when
lived with and that public art is a non-exclusive way for this
to be realized. In the context of healthcare, art's immeasurable
healing power is evident.
